Here and NowThe Amah Mutsun Tribal Band lived on their traditional lands, including Morgan Hill, for thousands of years and many hundreds of generations. Their creation story tells them that Creator gave them the responsibility to take care of Mother Earth and all living things. Over time they developed land stewardship and management knowledge that reflected their spirituality and culture. Their history was violently interrupted by the mission period, the Mexican period, and the American period. Now the Amah Mutsun are attempting to return to the path of their ancestors.

A recent video titled Here and Now discusses their efforts to restore their indigenous knowledge so their members can heal from the historic trauma and once again find balance in their world.

The video “Here and Now” was produced by the Bay Area Open Space Council and presents the Amah Mutsun’s collaboration with Mid-Peninsula Open Space District, Sempervirens Fund and California State Parks. The video also presents the return of the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians to their ancestral territory.

Following the video screening will be a discussion with members of the Amah Mutsun Land Trust. Light refreshments will be provided by the Historical Society.
