Mount Umunhum gets its name from the Ohlone word for “resting place of the hummingbird.” Hummingbird is a central figure in the Ohlone creation story and an important part of their culture. How long does the persecution go on? Archived historical documentation,tribal storytelling, movies, non-fiction books, and witness accounts of the outrosaties are evidence of the deliberate harassment,theft of property, kidnapping, torture, murder, emotional, physical and sexual abuse by European settlers,the United States Government and “religious leaders”.
